Reform Immigration for Texas Alliance (RITA) opposes Arizona style law heading to Tx senate

From the Rita.org website

The House voted today to bring Arizona’s bad ideas to Texas. HB12, a proposal that is opposed by business leaders, law enforcement executives and human rights groups across the state will now go to the Senate. Gov. Rick Perry put this item on his so-called “emergency list,” but our sources in the Capitol tell us the proposal is making business leaders in Texas, including Perry’s biggest supporters, very nervous.
The fact is that Arizona-style laws do not fit in Texas. Our values, economy and families can't afford HB 12.

After passing the notorious SB 1070, Arizona suffered the consequences. The state became synonymous with xenophobia. Boycotts cost Arizona over $490 million and counting. The law has consistently lost legal challenges based on the fact that it violates the Constitution of the U.S.

RITA opposes HB 12 for it’s similarity to SB 1070 and fears that a law like this could put Texas on the same dead-end road as Arizona. HB 12 is opposed by nearly ALL law enforcement leaders in Texas. Do you trust that they know the best way to keep communities safe? We do. We oppose HB 12 because it would undermine public safety by diverting limited police resources away from protecting the public against serious crime and it would discourage many victims and witnesses from helping the police.

We stand with faith and community leaders who say this law would divide their communities and violate their beliefs. We stand with local taxpayers who cannot afford a law that is impossible to fund. Most of all, we stand with Texans who believe in a rational, common-sense solution to the broken immigration system.
Texas can do better than this.

Tell your Senator to vote no on HB 12 when it comes to the Senate floor.
