Absolutely no mention of texting ban on Pro8 News

Covergage YOU can count on! (Pointing at you)

Unless, I missed it, Pro 8 News, with coverage you can count on, failed to even mention the texting ban that was supposed to be up for a vote at tonight's city council meeting. They had been covering it the last couple of days and repeating the story for several news cycles as they're prone to do. So, naturally, you'd expect for them to provide some sort of follow up. Even simply saying something like "we'll have an update of the texting ban tomorrow morning"  would've been understandable.

Admittedly, I did watch some of the payasadas proceedings of tonight's meeting but only up to when they broke for their usual all-you-can-eat executive session. So, those of you who are avowed texters better find another source of news to keep you informed.  It's clear that despite Tim Guttierez's insistence, we can't count on Pro8 news after all.

  1. If I remember correctly from last night's meeting, council is working on putting the finishing touches on the texting ban. You can still use your phone while driving but not text. And state law prohibits anybody who is transporting people (El Metro, vans, school buses) from texting.

Mike Garza said that he's seen a lot of people violating the state law.

I think any use of a cell phone while driving should be prohibited within the city limits.

  2. You know what, I stand corrected. I think it was just an introductory ordinance last night. Yes, there's bus drivers who are like to sneak a text here and there and that's dangerous. I think if someone was to make it a point to observe drivers as they are dropping off or picking their kids from school, they'd find that a lot of parents & teachers are texting in school zones.

  3. It was mentioned briefly on the news tonight, probably when you took a potty break: http://www.pro8news.com/news/local/Texting-While-Driving-Could-Be-Prohibited-116787068.html

But I don't need no stinking ordinance, I did the Oprah "no phone zone" pledge! That's good enough for me :).

  4. I counted 3 texters in a row today, ok one was talking (but thinking about texting), the other two were engaged in extreme texting, no holds barred. When you're driving, count the number of people that pass you in the opposite direction who are on their cells in one way or another, it's usually about 40 per cent. Nowadays, babies are probably being born with one hand up to their ear,it's cellular evolution.
