As FBI moves in, Reyes, Sanchez seem to have edge as possible CAA's new Director

Getting the FBI involved is one way to achieve a Transparent window into Webb's dealings

I don't know either one of them personally, but according to what the Laredo Morning Times reported today, El Cenizo Mayor Raul Reyes and Local tax attorney Deyanira Sanchez appear to be the front runners for the CAA Director's vacant position. Of the two, Reyes is the best known candidate, generally speaking. He is usually in the news several times a year. Of course, this could be good news or bad news depending on your opinion of the Mayor. Andrew Kreigbaum reported in today's LMT:
El Cenizo Mayor Raul Reyes presented to the commissioners the most detailed plan of any finalist. His plan calls for more public outreach from the agency through monthly town hall meetings and presentations to civic organizations.Reyes also recommended monthly progress reports within the agency on benchmarks such as staff turnover and community events. He has served as the mayor of El Cenizo, a city of about 3,500 people, since 2004 while completing undergraduate and graduate degrees at TAMIU.

Virtually every candidate interviewed Tuesday night stressed the importance of accountability in running the agency.Laredo accountant Deyanira Serna stated in her application she would design individual goals for employees and provide continuing education and training. She said her training in accounting has also given her skills in detecting fraud and conflict resolution. Serna was an internal auditor at United Independent School District and later Laredo ISD from 1997 to 2007 and has also taught courses as an adjunct faculty member at TAMIU.
Let's hope that the commissioner's court takes note of the current political and legal turmoil that is surrounding the embattled agency (and perhaps the entire county govt.) and makes it a point to select someone who will act in the people's best interest.
